Originally issued in 1978 with two recordings, Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf and Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra:
• Peter and the Wolf recording: Scottish Rite Cathedral, Philadelphia, October 8, 1975;
• Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra recording: Scottish Rite Cathedral, Philadelphia, March 27/28, 1974;
• Bowie overdubs on Peter and the Wolf: New York City, November 17/19, 1977.

Most releases between 1992 and 2013 inclusive compiled these two recordings with pieces from other periods in a variety of covers with several different names:
