Launched in the late 60s as a series of Boosey & Hawkes production music LPs, Cavendish became a fully fledged library label when Boosey switched to CDs in 1987. It later became an imprint of Imagem Production Music (BooseyPM's new name as of September 2010), alongside Abaco Music Library, Strip Sounds, PPM and the Boosey & Hawkes Classical Library.
In 2016 the company behind the imprint was acquired by the "OLE Music Network".
