  Started out as a folkie (guitar/banjo) in Los Angeles, performing in duo with the future Country Joe McDonald. Switched to bass after moving to Sonoma County, where he worked as a session musician at Prairie Sun Recording Studios. There he learned engineering and started a radio show with Steve Jaxon. Eventually founded Zone Recording Cotati.
